A Little Bit of Journaling

I failed to make a post last Sunday, but there has been quite a bit that I want to write about. I mainly want to write about these things for myself since I have been justifying not writing in my journal because I feel that a blog does the job. It might not be that exciting to read, but to me it is a journal entry.

These past few days my poor little husband was sick with the flu. He's had a fever, cough, headache, achy body, and all of the other symptoms that we all hate. We've been drinking a lot of orange juice and watching a lot of movies- Stardust, The Terminal, The Kite Runner, and the all time favorite, The Sound of Music.

David was given a new calling! Instead of being in Young Mens (which he is a bit sad about because he was looking forward to doubling the size from 2 YM to 4 in the next couple months) he is now the Sunday School President and will be teaching Gospel Doctrine every week. Mel Vance had been teaching that class for the past nine years, so this is a big change in the branch. I even remember visiting my sister when she lived out here several years ago, and he was the teacher before they even had a church building! We are all so excited to hear David's lessons every week and excited for the different changes in the branch.

Speaking about changes in the church, I wanted to say how grateful I was to have grown up hearing the words of dear President Hinckley. His love for the youth was amazing and I felt it as a teenager. I will always remember the fireside where he gave the six B's, the long prayer, or blessing I should say, he gave at the end of that fireside, the Book of Mormon challenge, Seeing and listening to him at conference and feeling the Spirit so strong as he walked into the room and everyone stood in silence, hearing him at BYU devotionals and feeling so close to him as he spoke directly to us about things we all needed to hear. Lastly, I will remember the Spring conference of 2006 when my roommates and I had very close seats. When President Hinckley started to walk out of the conference center he gave his famous wave and smile as he blew a kiss to everyone. I know it was for everyone in the church, not only those in the conference center, but at that moment I felt that it was for me. I was on the phone with Celeste when I found out about President Hinckley's passing, and it was a comfort to me to have heard it from such a close friend. I also found comfort to know that he is with his sweet wife and those who have gone before him. We were so blessed to have had the chance to watch the funeral broadcasted from the church. I never really payed attention to whoever it was conducting that would say something about the meeting being broadcasted all over the world until I was the one watching it from far away.

I'm so excited for what the future holds in the church. I know that President Monson, President Eyring, and President Uchtdorf will do amazing things and I look forward to Spring conference to hear the words of our new first presidency.

Work has been going very well lately. I absolutely love the people I work with, even though we are all competing against each other! David's job is going well also. His employees have been so sweet by calling him to make sure he's feeling better. The Vice President of Del Sol recently came out for a day to meet with the owner of Kirk Freeport. We had the privilege of going out to dinner with him and the best part was we got to choose where to go! We took him to the most amazing restaurant in the world, Calypso Grill. David had the same thing he had last time, ginger tuna, and I had crab and spinach stuffed grouper. It was to die for. Plus, the atmosphere is perfect. It's hidden away from everything and is on the water. I'm serious when I say a trip out here is worth it just for this restaurant. Anyway, we felt so honored that Paul took the time to meet with us. He and David talked about some really great things that are going to happen to the stores out here. I sure was proud to tell him that my dad wears Del Sol attire every single day and that he gives out color changing keychains and rings to every child he sees, especially strangers.

My mom is going to the Philippines on Monday. I am worried about her traveling so far. It's funny because she is  the one always worrying. I mean I'm still not allowed to cross the street to Albertson's from our house in Mesa! She was always the type of mom that stayed up waiting until I got home from curfew and even when I was in college she would have me call her very often to let her know I was safe. She is going to have a great time in the Philippines and I'm excited for the goodies she will bring back. Fake cartier or Rolex anyone? She is going with my Auntie Rosie and Auntie Mye, so they are going to have so much fun. When my mom and aunts get together they giggle all night long and usually someone ends up peeing their pants because they laugh so hard! They are like teenage girls together, it is the cutest thing. My dad and Em will be in Utah hanging out with Asialene's family. I know they will both miss her. I'm going to miss her and I don't even live near her!

A few random things...

I got my eyebrows threaded by a girl from work. Sandy is from India and has been doing it forever. She takes a spool of thread, puts one end in her mouth, does some sort of twisty thing with the middle, and uses it to pull out the little hairs. It's amazing! It took five minutes (we actually did it at work in the back room! Spa service anytime of the day!). Has anyone else ever had this done? It is crazy how it works and it's ten times better than waxing or tweezing! I am so far behind when it comes to stuff like that, so I was not familiar with it at all.

David and I go through phases of what kinds of treats we have in the house. When we first got here we ate cinnamon toast every single day. Then we bought doughnut holes every time we went to the grocery store. Now that we have the new Costco place, we buy in bulk. We got Almond Roca at first and then bought a 5 lb bag of gummy bears. I am happy to say that I am now sick of them. The phase we are in now... Subway oatmeal raison cookies. What is it about Subway cookies that makes it so that I don't think twice about the $1.59 I'm spending each time?

We were sad to hear about Mitt Romney dropping out, but we do admire him for his efforts. What a great guy.

A bit of exciting news... I am coming home at the end of March. I will be flying to Seattle to meet my family and then I'll have a couple of days in Utah before coming back. It will be a short trip, but I was lucky enough that I didn't have to ask special permission for leaving. Anyone that wants to accompany me on my flight back to Grand Cayman is more than welcome!

Okay, that's the end of the longest post ever. Sorry if it was boring to read, but I am happy because I now have that feeling of satisfaction because I did a little bit of journaling.

I can't believe Mel was released from Sunday School teacher!!! That is so exciting for David! He will do a great job - I know he'll put a lot of time into the lessons. Is he going to use the easel and poster paper as well? :) I'm also excited for him to begin teaching with the Book of Mormon.

We are also so sad to see Mitt out of the race. Hopefully we see him in 2012! Also, did you know that our special treat when we lived there were those cheap hard oatmeal cookies with frosting from Foster's? Hope David gets better soon.
