Occasionally on the slow days at work my friend Tiffany and I will take little trips to the other Kirk Freeport stores to make time go faster. We spray ourselves with the test bottles at The Perfumerie, apply several different kinds of lipstick at the Chanel counter, try on jewelry at Carteir, stop by David's desk to say hi, and our favorite place of all is Kirk's Leather where they sell handbags galor and of course, Fendi. One day Tiffany and I both found a few things we felt like we could not live without. She saw a purse and belt that she could not stop thinking about after we left, and I found the perfect pair of sunglasses. Not only do they match my Christmas gift from David (a purse), but they are one of the very few frames that fit my face nicely. Compared to everything else in the store, they were quite cheap, but for all of you that know me I have a hard time spending money... but not this time! I told David all about them and told him that the next big sale I made at work would not really exist because I would simply walk to the leather store, buy the glasses, and pretend like I never made the sale in the first place. Surprisingly, David did not like the idea. He is usually the one to tell me, "Buy it if you really like it. Treat yourself, we don't do this very often," etc. but this time he was not fond of the idea since it was not a "special occasion." I started realizing that I was being worldly and I did not need matching sunglasses. Tiffany tried to convince me to do a layaway plan with her (She'd buy the glasses and I'd pay them off slowly with each paycheck), but I decided to wait until my birthday or another special occasion. After a few big sales this week (i.e. 14 Mont Blanc pens to one customer! They spent $5,500 on ink pens!) David said I should get the glasses. I had already made up my mind that it was not a big deal and that I did not need them. I worked all day Saturday and David had the day off. He picked me up after work and we went on our date for the month (doing pretty good with our budget! Although I only have $10 for food and gas for the next four days!) to a delicious Thai restaurant and then got Blizzards at the newly opened Dairy Queen- I love the familiar places that join the island scene. When we got home that night I opened the door to a clean apartment, flowers, a sweet note, and of course, the sunglasses. The note was darling and the best part was, "I don't need a special occasion to celebrate my love and appreciation for you." What a perfect husband! What made everything even better was the reason why he had the money to buy the sunglasses in the first place. On Monday he went to pay the utilities bill for the month of December. For some odd reason, the bill had already been paid. Maybe it was the old tenants, maybe it was the landlord, it could have been the company made a mistake, but someone wanted me to be the owner of those adorable sunglasses!

Since I've basically attributed this post to David's gift giving, I thought I'd post a little slideshow of another amazing surprise. For my 21st birthday David restored a beautiful bike for me. He bought the frame off of Ebay, sanded, painted, bought a leather coat at the DI to hand sew handlebar and seat covers with, hammered out fenders to fit the tires, and added a perfect little basket and bell to make this beautiful piece of work. We had been dating for about six months and I had no idea that he had been working on this bike for about two out of the six months. Of course I cried when I opened the door and saw this... (I cried when I got my sunglasses too. How pathetic!)
