Valentine's Day morning I woke up to the smell of delicious pancakes and breakfast in bed. David served me this beautiful piece of art- a heart shaped pancake with whipped cream and strawberries. We decided to keep it pretty low key this Valentine's Day without gifts, but I must say that the thought of something like this is definitely what counts. After breakfast we spent the day at work. There were five ships in port, so we kept pretty busy. We hardly got to see each other all day. After work I told David to go away for an hour so I could prepare a surprise dinner. I had been planning to do a little dinner by the beach as the sun set, so I needed him to be out of sight while I got everything ready.
Well, as I was bringing everything to the spot we were going to eat, I noticed a few guys surfing right where I was setting up the dinner. Of course, David was among them. So much for the surprise, but luckily I had not set everything up yet. He ran home to get dressed and was still surprised to come back to the romantic little meal that awaited him.
We ended up eating after it got dark so the photos don't show the gorgeous beach in the background, but it was absolutely beautiful watching the waves crash and eating by light of the moon, stars, and the candles at the table. I gave David his small surprise which was a mug that says, "I LOVE MY WIFE," just in case he needs to reminding when I wake up grumpy. :)
The rest of the week went very well. The branch had a French Cuisine on Saturday night. The food was delicious, there was a harpist in the background, and we enjoyed some fun French trivia with prizes. Today David taught Sunday school and did a great job. Now we are enjoying the bliss of Sunday afternoon: a delicious crockpot meal, naps, reading, and a few phonecalls.
I must also take the time to say Happy Birthday to one of my very best friends, Kelly Baker Huish. Here are a few things I love about Kelly...
1). She is so generous. She has thrown me a huge birthday party, bridal shower, and made tons of delicious dinners when we lived together in Provo. She also surprised me several times with random gifts, my favorite in which were the polka dot goblets.
2). She is so domestic and a great hostess. When you walk into Kelly's house you think, "This is so Kelly." Everything describes her from her red couches to her polka dot dessert plates. She throws fun parties, even though I'm sad that I hardly get to go to any since we live so far away!
3). She is the perfect elementary school teacher. Wouldn't you just love to have one of your children be in Mrs. Huish's second grade class?
4). She is so fun to laugh and reminisce with. We email pretty frequently and at the end of our emails we usually write a memory. We weren't very close until we got to college so you wouldn't think we'd have many things to write about, but we do and I love remembering them.
5). She is a wonderful example and friend to everyone. You can't help but love Kelly to pieces. Happy Birthday, Kelly!

In case david doesn't know what he wants to do for a career when you get home, I have figured it out. He needs to offer classes to teach guys how to be romantic, you know like Hitch or something. I guess I could take lessons from you, too, shalynna! I am very jealous of the French cuisine you got to enjoy. miss you!
I love the table you set up! That's the best part of planning things - the set up. You are SO LUCKY you got to have such a romantic Valentine's Day in the Caribbean! I'm jealous! And yes, I need a lesson or two from you as well!
