Halloween Memories

No pictures this year. We didn't dress up for halloween because there was really no where to go. We had dinner with two other couples and had a couple of trick-or-treaters, which was fun. A lot of people out here think it is the devil's holiday, so we didn't see many kids dressed up as we typically would in the states. It did get us thinking about our past halloweens and it was fun to reminisce.

The first year I can actually remember dressing up was when my mom made me a cute little red riding outfit. I think she used left over fabric from our red curtains. She was always so economical. One year Asialene, Emerald, and I all dressed up in matching poodle skirts and cardigans. Then there was the hand-me-down French maid costume from Asialene, which I remember loving. In junior high our big group of friends dressed up as barbies and I was nurse barbie. I had braces, so I didn't look much like a barbie! We got the whole barbie idea off of the movie Never Been Kissed. I can remember how Celeste sprayed her hair pink and then wore a pink eighties dress, but nobody knew which barbie she was? Does anyone else remember how funny that was? Jessica Nance was secretary barbie, which fit her perfect and Chelsea Goodman was ski barbie. I still have pictures from that night, so maybe I'll scan them someday and post them. The next memorable Halloween was in college when I dressed up as Minnie Mouse. I decided not to go to the UVSC party because I hated dance parties, so I stayed home and ended up falling asleep in my costume- Minnie ears, high heels, and all! The following year was a lot more fun because David and I dressed up as John Lennon and Yoko Ono and went roller skating at our ward party. I love halloween and I really can't wait until we have children and I can start dressing them up. My goal is to continue to learn how to sew so that I can make the costumes myself.

David's memorable Halloween was when he had just moved to a new school and didn't know anyone yet. He stayed home watching a marathon of both Rocky and John Rambo movies on TNT and handing out candy. I thought it was such a sad story when he told me, but so funny to picture him sitting at home watching movie after movie. I promise to never let that happen again, but if we do end up becoming so old and weak that we have to stay home on a halloween night we will at least be together.

I wanted to post photos of our week, but David's computer is not picking up the Internet signal and it has everything on it. I'm planning on posting something new every Friday so that I am consistent with this whole thing, but I may add some beach pictures in the next couple days. We enjoyed looking at all of your cute halloween costumes and we miss everyone so much!

Haha...got your comment on Kelly's blog! Thanks! Oh and do I ever remember the Barbie year!! Celeste was so dang hilarious! I think we forgot to give her the memo bc she surely was not a barbie!! Don't you remember me as a barie?? In my cool plastic looking pants... haha. Good times!! Remember how no one knew what Jessica was and told her that she looked like a hooker! Haha...she was far from that but it was so funny!

Halloween was the best at our house growing up. We're so lucky our mom could make anything we ever wanted to be. You're such the perfect child trying to follow in her footsteps. You'll have to make my girls' costumes as well. :)
