Doesn't this look fake? Everything is real, even the sailboat. Doesn't it make you want to come visit? We would love to have holiday visitors. We went snorkeling today and David was literally inches away from a six foot nurse shark! I was scared, but David could not get enough.

This has been such a busy week. The two new Del Sol interns came, which meant that we had to move out of the intern apartment. We will miss our Filipino neighbors, but we are so excited to make friends with our new ones. This is a photo of our good friends Kody and Larisa and the new interns Jenna and Elsie. We welcomed the girls by taking them to a delicious sushi restaurant. It is fun to have American friends out here. Now we will have more people to celebrate Thanksgiving with. Fourth of July was so lonely because no one really cared that it was America's Independence Day.

Grand Cayman has had the tradition of Pirates Week for thirty years. Each night a different district hosts several events. The opening night had a sky diver and two huge boatloads of pirates coming onto shore and attacking the red coats. Hundreds of pirates were running around Georgetown. They then have a huge parade of all the local kids and schools. It was the cutest thing watching the little black kids dance- they have it in their blood!

After the parade we had the pleasure of eating some of the local food. These people love fried chicken, fried fish, fried plantain, and drinking soda without a straw is unheard of.
Friday and Saturday night were only the beginning of Pirates Week. Next week we have a cardboard sailboat competition. The boats can only be made of cardboard and duck tape-not to mention someone has to actually be in the boat sailing it without sinking. We are excited to go to each of the districts and taste the different local food.

I can't believe you saw a shark! I would have been so scared. By the way, who is taking those awesome pictures? Is it David? They all look so professional! Pirates Week sounds really fun -- wish I could be there.
Your post really is enticing! I want to come visit! Looks like so much fun! Do you know how much tickets are? And yes, assisting is so much fun! I am actually an ortho assistant but same thing... That is too funny how it worked out that all of us assisted!
sha sha... HEY GIRL! I havent seen you in forever and I had to tell you that you look great, and im a little jealous of your island life. Are you island crazy yet? I wanted to ask how you two got involved doing this and if it was something you would recommend? I want to move away sooo bad and this kinda looks like it would be a good opportunity
I'm tagging you!
This is a different tag, so here are the rules: A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning.B. Each player lists 6 little-known facts/habits about themselves. C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
Shalynna!! Thank you for the comment! Looks like you two are having fun out there, what an amazing opportunity. HOpe you don't mind if I add you to my blog so I can keep up with your fun life on the island! Take care.
I love your pictures! I am so jealous of you. Utah is getting so cold I might go crazy! Tell David we say hi and if we take a vacation anytime we will go there!!!!
Holy cow Shalynna it is so pretty there. Looks like you guys are having so much fun!! I would love to come visit. BUT by the time we could come I would have a big belly and I don't know if I want to wear a swim suit (I'm pregnant). Love ya! Keep the pics coming.
PIRATES WEEK?? Oh my gosh i'm looking up flights right now. Shalynna, are you learning Espanol? The pictures are to die for. I miss you so much. About twice a week i say out loud (mostly to Haley neilsen or marianne Gold) "Wow, where is shalynna when i need her? or that is such a Shalynna-ism" -- ya know when referring to ironing your jeans everynight or little tiny details that make everything cuter or matching hairties with underwear. Things of this nature. I miss you. I wanna come visit.
