Pirates Week and Playing House

One of the great things in Grand Cayman comes once a year and is a little something we like to call Pirates Week. It's a celebration of the pirate heritage and the early settlement of the island. Last Year we had a great time and this year was no disappointment. I would eat the fried fish everyday if I could. It is delicious.

We were very involved this year. Not only did we dress up, but David participated in the cardboard boat race representing good old Kirk Freeport. Lance and Chris did a great job with the boat and David was able to help with part of it. They had to abide by the four material rule: cardboard, glue (and only certain types), duct tape, and paint. Other materials were allowed for decorating purposes. And Olivia, your presents were very cute too. :)

Out of the sixteen boats two sank before they were able to get very far out into the sea, and Kirk Freeport was last to come in. It was pretty funny, but not all bad since it gave them more advertising as their name was announced the most by the D.J.'s.

The four of them won most spirited. In my opinion, they should have won best boat. But, the building boat (pictured above) received that award. Red Sail's lightweight kayak style boat won the race but it was not as cute or pretty as our boat by any means.

Can you imagine the excitement when they won four boxes of beer and four bottles of wine?

Earlier in the week David participated in the 5K run. Usually those things are on Sundays out here, so he was excited to find out about the race. The girls from Del Sol sponsored him. :)
He also had a great fan club. We babysat three of the Hernandez children over the weekend and they were so proud of David running in the race. They also liked the free gatorade.

He won a gift certificate for Sunday Brunch at a cute little Cafe out here. We keep winning these things that just don't work for us!

They always end Pirates Week with beautiful fireworks. Some of them were heart shaped. How cute.

We loved having Walter, Dillon, and Nina over for a sleepover. The air mattress took up the whole front room! We went swimming, ate mac and cheese, watched Narnia and ate popcorn and gummy bears, and collapsed on our beds. I sang the kids primary songs and other lullabies as they were falling asleep and it literally put David to sleep. I can't wait to have kids.

This week: taking Christmas card pictures... who wants a Christmas card? Email me your address. I am also looking forward to Taste of Cayman on Saturday. Most of the restaurants on the island are there with samples and it should be a good time for all of us. Do I mention it enough that I just love living out here?

What a fun week! I LOVE the picture of you two as pirates - it is the best! When I was reading about the boat race - at first I was imagining like tiny little boats and then I scrolled down and saw people actually in them! That is amazing! Grand Cayman definitely knows how to throw a party. p.s. I want a Christmas Card :)

I remember how the beautiful the fireworks were during Pirates Week. I was at amazed at what a good view we got for not having to save seats or go early! Good job on your costumes! Sounds like so much fun and I wish we could visit again.

so... we have like over 400 pictures from the wedding! Ah! I really have been meaning to post them! I posted them all on facebook, but I'll do them on here too. I think I might do them just a little at a time so I don't get all overwhelmed. By the way, I don't think I put extra postage on your thank you... so it might take a little extra longer to get sent back and all. Sorry!!!

hahhaha. Hey girl! You two make stunning pirates. Ya, I'm pretty lame, so there's really nothing to actually "blog" about in my real life. No, I'm not in Utah; I'm back in AZ. My teacher is Userp, or something like that? Anyway, I love that class too. It's definitely a favorite, and I didn't think that would be when I first registered for it. Anyway, how are the caymans?? Hope all is well with you and David. Ciao.
