Well, I did not post on Sunday as I usually do, but this morning I thought of something that lead to more childhood memories. I was walking from the parking lot with David and I was holding the grocery bag that contained our lunch for this afternoon. I thought out loud, "I wish I had a lunchbox so I didn't have to carry our lunch in a grocery sack," and then memories of lunch boxes flooded my mind.
Do you remember how excited you used to get before the start of a new school year? I would especially get excited over my first day of school outfit. I also loved picking out a new backpack, lunchbox, and school shoes. Lunchboxes were fun because they usually had a matching thermus and a picture of some sort on the front. I can't exactly remember all of the lunchboxes I had, but I distinctly remember two. In third grade I had a red ESPRIT lunchbox. I think my mom got it in the Philippines, so it wasn't an authentic ESPRIT brand lunchbox. You see, in the Philippines and other countries such as Mexico, they will take any random object and put a brand on it. You've all seen it before. There's the leather wallet that says NIKE or one of my favorites that I've seen, a t-shirt that says adida without an 's' at the end. Anyway, this lunchbox was one of my most prized possessions. I felt so cool knowing I had a brand named lunchbox. Until... Katie B. (one of my best friends to this day) made fun of the lunchbox. She asked, "Why do you have a cardboard lunchbox?" Now mind you, this lunchbox was not cardboard but it also was not made of the normal hard plastic than most lunch boxes. I didn't know how to answer except, "But it's ESPRIT." After that I left my lunchbox at home. I was embarrassed to bring it to school.
My next favorite lunchbox was blue and said BYU in big white letters. Simon got it for me for one Christmas. I was older now, probably fourth or fifth grade, so it wasn't the plastic lunchboxes with a thermus, but one of those bag-type lunchboxes that was shaped like a paper sack that folds at the top. It had a little white ice pack inside to keep my beverage cold. I was proud of this lunchbox for the main reason that my cool older brother gave it to me. He also got Asialene one, so I was proud to have the same thing as her. Sadly enough, this lunchbox got made fun of too. A boy asked why I had a BYU lunchbox and then started saying how bad their football team was doing. I was not the proud Cougar that I am today, so this little insult got to me. I am ashamed to say it, but I did not bring this lunchbox back to school again.
David's memories of lunchboxes include brown paper sacks. His mom would always put little notes in his lunch. He said he used to hide the note because he'd be embarrassed. My mom did this too every so often. I think this is one of the cutest things that moms can do. I will for sure put little notes on heart shaped post-its for my children even when they are in high school and college.
Leave me a comment and tell me about your favorite lunchbox. We love you all and hope that by reading this you enjoy a moment of lunchbox reminiscing.

Hi Lina-I love the lunchbox story! I remember a couple lunchboxes that I had. I remember having a yellow lunchbox with Rainbow Brite and frienmds pictured on the front. I'm sad cuz I think either it got lost or mommy gave it away. I also remember having a purple lunchbox with a zipper that came with a koala bear thermus. Those were the good ol days.
My memories are much like David's -brown paper bags and little XOXOXO notes from my mom every day. I don't remember having a lunchbox - I probably did, but just don't remember. Though this post did make me remember the coolest gloves ever - my freaky freezies! The picture would change on them when they got cold. Seriously the coolest gloves ever!
On second thought, I think they were actually called freezy freakies :) I've got to go look for them now and see if they still make them.
The only two lunch boxes of mine I can remember are the Esprit and BYU ones!! :) I also remember Emerald's black lunch box thing - it could fit a sandwich and that was about it.
I love how you remember EVERYTHING. You always bring up fun memories. I wish I had a memory like you. You're going to be the one to tell my kids their childhood stories because I will forget them all!
