The rest of Cayman joined David in his excitement for tennis this week. Eight legendary tennis pros played a tournament at the Ritz Carlton from Wednesday to Sunday. Rob, from the tennis club, asked David if he wanted to join the raffle to win a spot in a tennis clinic with a few of the pros. David accepted eagerly, without knowing it cost $25 per raffle ticket (they charged it to his club account), and I was not too happy when I found out the price of the ticket plus the realistic idea that the chances of him being drawn were slim... until... he was chosen! He, along with several other members of the tennis club, participated in a clinic and even played a few games with Jimmy Arius, Wayne Ferrera, and Paul Haurius (Don't worry, I had no idea who these people were until the day he played them). But, it was so fun to watch how happy David was. He grew up watching these guys playing tennis and never thought he'd ever get the privilege of actually playing with and learning from them.
The excitement did not end there. The following day David came up to me at the jewelry store and said, "Have you seen the paper today?" Regrettably, I had not. I wish I was more of the type of person to read the newspaper, watch CNN, and keep up with current events, but sadly I am not. I am more of the type to keep up with current events in the blog world, keep tabs on who is voted off American Idol, and lose interest in politics after Mitt Romney stopped running. I promise I will make sure my children read the newspaper and know more about the world. Anyways, enough about me and back to my husband. He was excited to show me the Cayman Compass and this is why...
Do you see my cute little tennis player? We had no idea that this picture was even taken! Needless to say, David the Del Sol guy is now David the Tennis Player from the newspaper. To top off a tennis-filled week David watched John McEnroe, Jim Courier, and other great tennis legends at the Ritz on Saturday afternoon. Our good friend Sarah Black works there so she got him a great seat and free Gatorade. I guess I'm not mad about the $25 raffle ticket anymore. :)I know I don't usually spend this much time talking about sports, but there is something happening in my life that would surprise everyone. I am starting to become more educated with the world of sports and quite frankly I am enjoying every minute of it. For example, I even participated in March Madness this year. I didn't even know what this whole March Madness business was until two years ago. I LOVE the NBA playoffs. We watched them last year and I'm even tempted to get cable for a couple of months so we can watch them out here. I've always loved watching baseball, especially the Seattle Mariners, but haven't kept track of them lately. Anyway, instead of calling tennis matches "tennis meets", shotput balls "those big heavy balls that you have to throw in PE," and asking who is who and what is what in football, I can now say that I am really improving. Maybe I"ll even be some sort of coach for my kids' teams someday. I'd put together the cutest uniforms and serve the most delicious and refreshing snacks and drinks. It would be so much fun.

I love it! Too funny about the snacks and uniforms. What fun for David and great pic in the paper! How exciting. And yes, the boys have been getting lots of use out of their tooth fairy pillows. :) They are seriously the cutest little pillows in the world. I am planning on blogging about them when they lose another tooth.
That is really cool about David! What a fun week for him.
That reminded me of the time my picture was on the front page of the Daily Universe and the caption said I was from "Brothell, WA" instead of Bothell!
I'm so proud that you are actually starting to get into sports. :) Davis is ALWAYS talking about his teams and I always think of how I need to be a better support system to him. I just don't get how someone's mood can drastically change over a game - unless it's playoffs. I am excited the NBA playoffs have started. (I only wish I had a better TV so we could throw some parties.)
Thats awesome!!! It must be so much fun watching him do something he loves....and im glad your feeling more educated about sports!! yes, you should get cable...the suns and spurs are up against each other in the playoffs right now....its gonna be good!! luv ya girlie!
How lucky! i cant believe he got picked to play; how fun to be able to play with professionals; and how exciting he was in the newspaper. That is so funny about Asialene saying she was from "Brothell, WA" I seriously laughed out loud when i read that
I'm so glad I got to be a part of your day at one point- I loved having a REAL sneak peak at what you do on your every day life! LOVE YOU SHA.
I can see it now...teal shirts, matching socks and hats, matching and even the treats you would give would coordinate with their outfits. Miss you Shalynna!
