2009 in Photos and Descriptions

2009 was a great year for us, probably the most memorable one. It's hard to believe that one year ago our lives were completely different. Last year at this time we were living in the Cayman Islands, working full time, and trying for a baby. Here's a recap of 2009...

January: David broke his nose while surfing during his lunch break. I wonder if we will ever live somewhere where he can go surfing during lunch. It was a dream for him.

February: the month of my second favorite holiday. I'm still craving the delicious dinner David made me.

March: I was able to go to Seattle for the annual auction trip. We did the usual- clam chowder at Ivars on the pier, shopping with my aunt, and yelling, "yep" at the top of our lungs with each bid at the benefit auction.
April: one of the best months. David and I celebrated two years of marriage plus found out that we were expecting our first baby. I had told myself that I wanted to be pregnant by our two year wedding anniversary (we had been trying for about six months). Well, the morning of our anniversary was when I took the pregnancy test. It was the perfect anniversary gift.

May: the month of babysitting. We watched Kristy and Sean's cats for two weeks, stayed with the Grampp family for a weekend, then took care of Maurissa and Mariah (pictured below) Ashby for a week and a half.

June: not much happened during this month- probably because I was so nauseous. David participated in a swim race which was really fun.

July: a sad month. We said goodbye to our beloved island and cherished friends.

But it was also a month of traveling. We enjoyed Paris, France.

Florence and Pisa, Italy.
And the end of July and beginning of August we walked the streets of Barcelona, Spain.

Took the bus to see the sights.

And ate the most delicious food of the entire trip: tapas and paellas.

August: Elmore family visit for Kibson and Payson's baptism.

A day trip to New York. We think David might have had swine flu for a day. It's a miracle no one else got sick. Poor guy wasn't able to enjoy the city at all, but I loved my frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity.

This month we also found out we were having a boy!

Right before fall semester started we enjoyed a very fun trip to California. We ate, shopped, and went to the California State Fair- a tradition in David's family.

September: school started and David gave me the best Birthday present. We got a little Tiffany's lamp for a wedding gift and I've been in love with it ever since. I mentioned that I want to start a collection of them, so here is the beautiful lamp I received on my birthday (photo does not come close to showing how pretty it is).

October: the month of traveling. I went to Arizona for Haylie's wedding. Natalie, Chelsea, and I were bridesmaids. Nat and I were both pregnant. :)

While I was at the wedding David was in California. He drove home on a Wednesday (about a 9-10 hour drive) to make it in time for a baptism that evening and then left for Utah the next morning.

November: our ugliest month. I was VERY swollen and huge and David had a mustache. Despite our looks, it was a great month. Chad, David's younger brother, came to visit Utah. We had fun going to the BYU game, the temple, and driving back together to California for Thanksgiving. While in California we had our baby shower, ate a delicious Thanksgiving feast with extended family, and spent some time at Ashlie's boss's cabin right on Lake Tahoe. I blame the lack of photos from this month on our (mainly my) looks. :)

December: the most wonderful month of all. Our baby boy surprised us by coming four weeks early (my due date was this past Sunday. That means Oliver would only be five days old right now!). We spent the rest of 2009 staring at him.

Last year I had a pretty long list of New Year's resolutions and for the most part I was able to keep them, at least the important ones. Here are my new ones:

Physical Goal:
Lose the baby fat. :)
Continue drinking a lot of water.
Lessen the amount of sweets I eat and get out of the habit of thinking I need something sweet after every meal.

Fun Goals:
Learn to knit.
Sew at least three things (hopefully one will be Oliver's blessing outfit).

Family Goals:
Make dinner on a regular basis (I neglected cooking quite a bit while I was pregnant and going to school. Since I'll be taking the semester off I'll have more time to dedicate to our meals).
Make sure to have FHE every Monday night.

Spiritual Goals:
Scriptures and Prayer with more meaning instead of being half asleep.
Ponder more.

Education Goal:
Graduate college.

Traveling Goal:
Visit another country- maybe Costa Rica to visit good friends Thomas and Lyana and their baby Kalel.

I love how you do these recaps at the end of the year! I feel like I missed out on so much -- I never saw any pics of Haylie's wedding, which was so cute (the dress is perfect for a pregnant belly). The state fair picture is so fun! I love that it's a tradition -- especially during that time of year. I feel like I cram all my traditions into the same time of year - Christmas. Your list of goals seems perfect :) I can't believe you want to learn how to knit though! That has never really crossed my mind.... you and Savanna should learn together. You know how she's into stuff like that!

I love the way you can recap the events of your life in such a way that I feel like I was there. I miss you so much. I am not looking forward to going back to Utah but what makes it ok is getting to see family and friends that I miss. It still feels wrong without you guys here. I hope you have a Wonderful New Year.
