So originally David and I were going to sing a couple Beatles songs while he played the guitar. We were going to sing Jack Johnson's cover of Imagine and then the song Yesterday. Well, we put of practicing up until the night before the talent show. We decided to simplify everything and sing the song from Juno. The guitar part was easy (even I could play it!) and the little duiet was cute. We practiced that night quite a bit, the next morning, and even in the car- we're such dorks. We were totally ready, but nervous. We both can't sing very well, but we wanted to support the branch and we knew that it would be fun.I bought these cute little maracas and we were set. As they called our names to be the next performers David turned to me and said, "I forgot how my second verse starts." Both of our minds were at a blank- we could not remember how it started! Anyway, we ended up singing it, forgetting a few lines, a couple people were trying to put the microphone in front of our faces as we were singing, one time David asked, "Do you want to start over?" and I replied with, "Are you serious?" All of this while David was playing the guitar and we were singing away. It was pretty funny.
Other talents included (pictures to come): my piano students performing beautifully! A few steel drum players which is definitely a Caribbean thing, some Hannah Montana karaoke, tumbling by the most adorable little girls in the world, and a mock boy band music video. The night ended with sloppy joes, potato chips, and caramel popcorn.

Last night I also watched The Sound of Music. No matter how many times I watch that movie I never fail to cry at the part when Captain Von Trapp walks in the room where his children are singing for the first time. I love that movie.
Speaking about talents, why did I think I had the talent to sing in the Sound of Music musical in junior high? My voice was so bad (one of these days I'll post the video), but I sure loved singing with my seventh grade crush: Spencer Perkinson.

But, small world, my cousin Jeff and his wife Kieren and their two kids just moved like a month or so ago to the cayman islands for medical school. So they for sure are in your ward, maybe you already know them, but how funny is that!!!! I thought i would let you know so you can tell him we are friends! Good times!

I wish I could have heard your cute song. It sounds like you had fun singing it. And you are a good singer, believe me I know what a bad singer sounds like and you definitely don't qualify. The picture looks good- nice job on the edges. You might have to teach me.
Did anyone film the talent show? I would pay big bucks to see it! I'm glad you guys made it through the hurricanes, we've been thinking of you guys out there. Maybe you guys should move to a safer coast, say California?
You two did a great job. I think that some of my favorite parts were when you messed up, it was just cute. Do you have the sound of Music over here? If so I want to borrow it because I have never seen it, and really would like to.

You can post the video of you singing in sound of music, as long as there are no clips of me singing in cats. I tell you, I will never hear the end of how "hilarious" it was when I sang. Now there's a good question, "why did I think I should sing in cats"? Whenever anyone talks about it they start laughing!!!

i just wanted to tell you how much i love you shalynna. you are always one of the first people to comment on a new post and you always have something so nice and uplifting to say. you always make me feel really good about myself! i love how close we have become again even though we are so far away. i find myself thinking about the fun times we had in junior high quite often. i've always felt that we are similar in a lot of ways. thanks for everything!!!

That is so funny that you used to steal fruit roll ups from his house! You guys are hilarious! I used to eat all their girl scout cookies! His mom always got the best food! haha!
