It was also a perfect time for cat and house sitting since the Olympics have been on. I can't believe how emotional I get while watching them. Sometimes I just feel like crying when I see how happy the athletes are when they win. My favorite events have been gymnastics of course, I think Nastia and Shawn are the cutest girls ever, diving, the Chinese can't seem to make a splash even if they tried!, and synchronized swimming. For some reason I really loved watching their routines! For primary singing time today we had our own Cayman Olympics with a high jump, long jump, and a relay race that involved singing our primary songs. It was fun putting together the little gold medals and having the kids pick which country they represented. I had two girls say they were representing Miami and Allie, our newest member chose to represent Beaver, Utah. Maybe next week I will think of a way to incorporate singing time with learning the difference between countries and cities. :)
I never ended up getting the picture from David's birthday and I didn't even make him a birthday post. I am such a bad wife. But, his big birthday present should be coming on Monday. We ordered a new camera off Amazon and cannot wait to use it. Hopefully our next post will have some nice pictures of this gorgeous beach we are staying on.
Jamie celebrated her birthday this week too. We all went to Legends to celebrate her day.
The things I am looking forward to this week are:
Hopefully seeing Mama Mia with a bunch of ladies from the branch. I saw it on broadway with my mom, brother, and sister-in-law and I have been waiting anxiously for the movie to come out here (movies are always a bit later than the states out here)
Branch Talent Show. Last year was unforgettable. The Smalldon's are an older couple in the ward that have been married for over fifty years. They only knew each other seven or eight days before they got married and they are still the cutest couple! Sister Smalldon sang to Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" last year and dedicated it to her husband. How adorable is that? This year I am looking forward to my piano students showing off their new talents. David and I decided to participate since we want to support the activities committee, but we are nervous because neither of us can really perform anything. His talents- tennis, fixing cars, computer stuff, photography, painting, etc. aren't really the type of talents you can do at a talent show. My boring piano playing or bargain shopping isn't going to cut it this year either (and the talent I pride myself in the most- my ability to love people wouldn't really be something I could perform at a talent show either :), so we are going to go out on a whim and sing Beatles songs while he plays the guitar. My vision in my head is that we could dress up as John Lennon and Yoko Ono again (like we did one Halloween), but we don't have any costumes out here. Hopefully we'll come across something and hopefully we won't chicken out.
This post is so scattered, but oh well. My next post will have great pictures, hopefully some sort of theme, and if I could somehow give out treats through the blog, I would do that too. It's always easy to make people like you by cooking or baking- kind of like when you are teaching a lesson. Everyone loves your lesson if you give a cute handout or a delicious treat at the end. I used to cook in college all the time because I wanted everyone to like me. I also used to keep a candy jar in my car in high school so that people would want to drive with me. So, if you were kind enough to read this boring, random post, then imagine myself giving you a delicious slice of apple pie, broccoli salad, or tres leches (these were my recent experiments and they all turned out delicious. Thank you allrecipes.com).
Has anyone seen this video from YouTube? It's so funny. This, Charlie Bit my Finger, and the little girl that would kick the monstor's "ask", make me laugh every time.

Shalynna, I was so happy to hear from you! I'm so jealous that you live in Grand Cayman - and I cannot believe I didn't know about this! We were just there in June!! Our whole family - we stopped there on our cruise and Chris, Jessica & Tyler all went scuba diving and Me, Courtney and Dillon just hung out at the beach. I wish I'd have known, we could have called you! And yes, the kids definately remember their FAVORITE piano teacher, I wish I could find someone they would LIKE again. Sounds like life is great fun for you - and interesting! I'm adding you to our friends list, so check us out and call us when you are in town - phone number hasn't changed. BTW, Thanks for the treat! Shawna
Shalynna you crack me up!!! I can totally picture you crying on the couch watching the olympics.
I want to see mama mia too!!! Please tell me you are coming in october.
I agree - these videos of little kids are so funny! Our girls are always making us laugh. And once again, I'm always so grateful for your memory because you remind me of all the cute things they do since I never write them down.
