A Wonderful Visit

Wednesday was the best day because Haylie was here! Her family was on one of the cruise ships (there were seven that day!). It was so great to see all of them. They first met up with David at Del Sol and then headed over to the jewelry store to see me. I had no idea what time they were coming, so it was a nice surprise. It has been close to eight months since we last saw each other, so of course we both cried! David and I both had to work all day, so the Farnsworth's headed to the beach and then we met up with Haylie for lunch. It was so great to talk and catch up in person. I love this girl and I miss her so much. Maybe I will be able to convince her to move out here for a few months. She is a natural salesperson, so I'm sure she'd be just fine working at one of Kirk Freeport's stores. In honor of my dear friend, I would like to add a few fond memories I have with Haylie. She doesn't blog, so I doubt she'll ever read this.

1). She is one of the only people I know that sticks to a collection. I have always tried collecting things, but I usually grow out of it or end up changing my collection. Frogs have been Haylie's favorite since she was small and she still collects different frog things. She also collects souvenir spoons, which I think is really cool.

2). She is really good at applying makeup. She went to hairschool, so she is awesome at that, but her makeup skills have always been really good. She used to give Chelsea and I her old Mac eyeshadows and she has a huge collection of brushes. She gave me one and I still use it.

3). She has always been so giving. For my eighteenth birthday she gave me a $100 gift certificate to Nordstrom. What a generous friend!

4). She is a great hostess. She hosted my bridal shower at her house. She was also the Mountain View Singles Ward break the fast chairman. She held break the fasts at her house for months and always made it a huge deal.

5). She is always willing to serve. She came to Utah for my wedding and the night of my reception she hardly enjoyed herself because she was working so hard! She made sure everything was perfect and the only payment she required was that I do the same for her when she gets married.

We love Haylie and we were so glad she came to visit!

As far as the rest of the week went, we were pretty busy with work and tennis. David played tennis Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, twice on Friday, and Saturday. We hosted another pool birthday party at our place on Saturday and ended the evening with a movie night at the Hernandez's house. We watched Narnia, a favorite of both of ours. David and I both fell asleep, but Ondina, Walter, and their five children loved the movie. We are so lucky to have such great friends out here.

Happy Birthday to our niece Bethany! She turned four today and is having a girls' tea party this week. She described it to me over the phone, "It's just for dirls (can't say the 'g' sound yet), I can have boys at my party when I'm five. We are going to paint nails and have Barbie cupcakes (you know the big cakes where Barbie's dress is the cake? They are going to make little cupcakes like that. How cute!)." Bethany is a wonderful little niece. A few things about Bethany that we love are...

1). She loves the color pink. It was one of her earliest words! I remember visiting them one time and she cried because her dad wouldn't let her have the milk with the pink lid (it was skim milk, and not the kids' whole milk). When my mom was sewing pink tablecloths for my wedding reception Bethany loved the fact that they were pink.
2). When David was very very sick with leptosporosis Bethany used to include David in her prayers. Simon and Amy said that months later, after he was fully recovered, she continued to say, "And Dafid," in her prayers. In fact recently for Valentine's Day Amy asked Bethany who she wanted to make a valentine for and she responded with, "Uncle David because he's dead and I love him." She got confused with the meanings of the words dead and sick, and she also got confused with the time frame of things. David's not sick anymore! It's been over a year! :)
3). She is very mature and has a high vocabulary, probably from copying her parents. One time Simon got frustrated with Bethany because she left a little trickle of #1 on the toilet seat. Bethany responded with, "Daddy, it was a mistake. People make mistakes."

This was at my wedding. Simon was the videographer and made us a beautiful wedding video (a bit more serious than the Honda documentary! :)

We love little Bethany and we are so excited to see her in May at Walt Disney World!
