Congratulations to Asian Retail basketball team! Saturday night David and I attended the victory party for this talented team. This was the third year in a row that they won the Filipino basketball league championship. Lucky for me, I was selected as the team's muse last summer. I had no idea what in the world a muse was, but I consented to doing it as a kindly neighbor gesture. The team reassured me that all I would be doing was holding a banner at the opening parade. It was funny because the "uniform" that the teammates' girlfriends gave me to wear was probably the tiniest little skirt I have ever seen and a matching tank top. Luckily, I had a more modest dress to match their colors.
Here is a picture of some of the team members, Molet and Grace (supporting girlfriends), and myself right before the opening parade in July. There were about fifteen teams present, and not one white person in sight, except David! At the end of the parade the announcer introduced each team and then said something about the muses giving their speeches and being judged. This was when I started to panic. A speech? No one told me about a speech or a competition. The other muses seemed well prepared and I hadn't the slightest idea of what to say. It all turned out in the end and the cutest muse of all won the competition. She was a little six year old girl. I think I'll encourage the guys to invite one of the interns as the muse for this next season and I will be sure to prepare her for a fun surprise! It's really neat being surrounded by my mom's culture. I'm getting more exposed to it out here in Grand Cayman than anywhere in the states. Who would have thought? I'm so proud of my heritage and I love being half Filipino!
